Nd:YAG Crystal:
At the heart of the PRO-Q2 System is the Nd-YAG (Neodymium Yattrium Aluminum Garnet) crystal. This solid state material has been used for years in both the scientific and medical communities. However, the PRO-Q2 is uniquely set apart from the ordinary Nd-Yag laser in that it is Q-switched and frequency Doubled.

Q-Switch:
The Q-Switch or Pocket cells acts as an extremely high speed shutter which allow the PRO-Q2 to produce an extremely high energy to be released from the laser. The role of the Q-switch is to prevent the absorbed light from the Nd-YAG rod from reaching the rear mirror of the laser cavity until it can store a large amount of energy.

Frequency Doubler:


The frequency Doubler is a solid crystal which literally doubles the frequency of the light, thereby cutting the wavelength in half. This allows the 1064 nm to be converted to a pure 532 nm wavelength, giving the PRO-Q2 two separate and distinct wavelengths in one laser system.

01. PIGMENTED LESIONS:
The PRO-Q2 is perfected for treating a wide variety of epidermal and dermal pigmented lesions, including age spots, solar lentigines, cafe-au-lait lesions and dermal melanocytosis. Many superficial lesions can be removed quickly and become a huge profit centre in your practice, as well as making a significant difference in the lives of your patients.

The 1064 nm wavelength of the system is extremely effective in the treatment of dermal melaynocytosis such as Nevus of Ota and aberrant Mongolian spot. Multiple treatments were spaced at 2-month intervals or greater. No permanent side effects were observed, and only occasional transient hyper pigmentation was noted, usually resolving within two months. In all cases, lesions lightened after each treatment, and significant lightening occurred after multiple treatments.

The PRO-Q2's long wavelength, short pulse duration and high peak power combine to optimally destroy dark chromophores with a very low risk of permanent tissue damage. Researches showed the 1064 nm wavelength to be excellent in the removal of black and dark blue ink, even in darker skin. The longer 1064 nm wavelength significantly lowers the risk of hypo pigmentation when compared to lasers in 600-800 nm range, while the short nanosecond pulse duration limits the tissues exposure to heat build-up, therefore reducing the risk of scarring.

03. NON-ABLATIVE SKIN RESURFACING OR PHOTO REJUVENATION:
Non-Ablative Skin Resurfacing or Photo rejuvenation is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures to come to the market in some time. Non-Ablative Skin Resurfacing offers many benefits over traditional laser skin resurfacing, including no re-epithelialization time, no patient down time, and a low risk of complications.

The PRO-Q2 is fast becoming the laser of choice for this exciting treatment. With the PRO-Q2, there is little risk of pigmentary changes or burns, and no pitted scars. Patients report and doctors have confirmed that they have achieved a more refreshed appearance, a reduction in fine lines and wrinkles, smoother skin texture, and a decrease in pore size. The PRO-Q2 was discovered to be effective in this application when treating patients for hair removal, pigmented lesion removal and tattoo removal. Physicians discovered that their patients were noticing these non-ablative resurfacing effects.

04. VASCULAR LESIONS:
Rounding out the PRO-Q2 applications is its ability to treat vascular lesions. It is interesting to note that some lesions that have been successfully treated by the PRO-Q2 had in fact failed treatment by other laser systems.

The 532 nm is clinically successful in the removal of many vascular lesions. Protocol trials have shown these wavelengths to be effective in treating telangiectasia, angiomas, spider nevi, small port wine stains and Campbell de Morgan spots. More than one treatment may be necessary, and purpura, which typically clears within one week, will be evident immediately following treatment.
